Dining out on Father’s Day

06/17/10 - IT’S THAT time of the year again when the most important man in our lives is hailed king of the living room, master of the house, coach of Family United, CEO of Dynasty Inc., and a host of other titles -- silly or otherwise -- that are but different ways of saying "We love you because you’re the Best Dad in the World."

This weekend, several establishments are paying their own tribute to "the man," getting quite inventive in showing their appreciation of the family’s patronage and honoring the bond between fathers and kids. If having a good meal you didn’t prepare is your kind of thing, in a setting conducive for sharing other activities, then read on.

Manila Pavilion lays out the Father’s Day buffet treat at Seasons on June 20, offered for lunch and dinner (P1,200 net). Maxims Hotel at Resorts World Manila pulls out the stops this Father’s Day. Cantonese restaurant Passion is offering a set menu to all families starting from P1,688++ per person, with a minimum order for six persons; all Passion’s set menus come with a complimentary Casa Lapostolle Cabernet Sauvignon or Yalumba Voigner Y series. Meanwhile, Ginzadon, serving Japanese and Korean cuisine, offers a set menu starting from P1,088++/head, with a minimum order for four persons; all Ginzadon set menus comes with Bohae, your choice of Black Raspberry or Plum wine. Passion and Ginzadon are located at the 2nd floor of Maxims Hotel, Resorts World Manila, Newport City. At Dusit Thani Manila, treat dad to a hearty spread of international dishes at the Special Sunday Family Crossover Brunch featuring Thai, Japanese, European-Italian and International cuisines prepared by the four specialty restaurants. The brunch is available from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and priced at P1,450 net per person (50% off for kids age six to 12 and free for those five and below). Dads dining on June 20 will receive giveaways courtesy of PAGCOR, Procter & Gamble, San Miguel Coffee, Schick, and Summit Media. They will also have a chance to win prizes like golf caps, perfumes, white wines, and premium items from Toby’s Sports House and PAGCOR in the pick-a-prize corner. The entries for the ‘Why is your Dad the Best Dad in the World’ essay writing contest, sent by kids age 15 years old and below, will also be on display at the hotel lobby until the end of June. Restaurant 101, the application restaurant of Enderun Colleges, is offering a brunch buffet (P980 per person, 50% discount for children below 12 years) on June 20 at 11 a.m. Fathers get a complimentary gift certificate for a one-hour Shiatsu or Swedish massage at Orange Home Spa. The Diamond Hotel offers a Father’s Day spa experience from Jan. 19 to 20 for P7,900 nett which is good for two people. But if he comes to the spa with two family members or friends, all three get to spa for the same price. For P14,900 net, the spa package includes an overnight stay with breakfast for three. Meanwhile, the Yurakuen Japanese restaurant will have a special 5+1 buffet deal on June 20, where a father dines for free when accompanied by five family members. He can also join the pick-a-prize raffle when the total bill reaches P5,000 net, get 50% off coupons to drinks at the Sky Lounge and for the next visit to Palm Court Cafe’s lunch buffet, and 25% off in Kohikan for all fathers who dine at one of the hotel’s restaurants on that day. Discovery Shores in Boracay has "Mini Chefs Cook For Dad," a cooking station at the Sands Restaurant buffet where kids has whip a dish up for their fathers to enjoy along with the other items on the buffet. Mandarin Oriental, Manila’s Paseo Uno will have a Father’s Day Barbecue Buffet, available for P1,850+++. At Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila’s Li Li, a nine-course set meal has been created for Father’s Day. The set menu costs P1,800 net per person; the Father’s Day Brunch costs P1,800 net per person. Meanwhile, A Tribute to Dads will be held at The Market Cafe, a buffet which includes prime rib, baby lobster, baked oysters, chili crab and roast duck. The Father’s Day Buffet costs P1,800 net per person. Finally, there are two special Father’s Day cakes at The Pastry Boutique: Sweet Burger Cake (milk chocolate "patties," marzipan "cheese" slices and meringue "onion" rings); or Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake. Makati Shangri-La holds the "Just Like Daddy" promo in which any father-child mirror image pair that dines at any of the hotel’s restaurants from June 10 to 20, gets the chance to win a dinner at the Chef’s Table for 10 persons at Circles Event Cafe, a two-night stay at the hotel, and a pampering make-over worth P10,000 at Salon Prive. G Hotel Manila’s Cafe Noir’s chefs have come up with a set meal featuring pork porterhouse served with braised red cabbage, sauteed apples, and calvados sauce at P400 nett.
